- PSP Gran Turismo
Before Gran Turismo Portable (GTP) release, I am very interested in it! It was one of the awesome racing game I had play before when it was on Playstation and Playstation 2 (PS2).
And now the PSP Gran Turismo is out! However there are some issues if you want to play the downloaded ISO from your mod-ed PSP.
Problem:
After PSP’s Gran Turismo Portable image (*.iso) available for download from Internet. There are many who failed to play the downloaded GTP because it required firmware version 6.0/5.50 .
It is not playable in Custom Firmware 3.70, 3.90 M33 o. …or even 5.00 M33-6!! Yeah, I agree that CFW 5.00 M33 is an outstanding CFW that have we play quite number of games. Until this new Original Firmware 6.00 are release, it seems minimum requirement from most of the new games required firmware version 6.0/5.50. Or even can’t play if we have not patched the game! In other word, we are suck now! Yeah, “we”! Mine is PSP-1000 series with CFW 5.00 M33-<unknown> who failed to played Patched GTP! (describe patched GTP later)
Here are some common question posted by some gamer who failed to make it work:
- I downloaded PATCHED GTP but how come it still doesn’t work. Is this a prank, fake or what?
- Hey I GOT CFW 5.00 M33-6! Why it still can’t work!?
- Not working with CFW 5.00 M33-6, frezzes pas psp logo!!
- Tried Game Decrypter with GT on my PSP-3001 using GEN 5.03A and still getting black screen.
Solution:
Don’t worry, you just need to sweat for few seconds because there are some great man who made 6.0/5.50 firmware required games work!
From what I have tried, your PSP
- need at least Custom Firmware 5.50 GEN-B, and
- Your game must be patched by using Game Decrypter (Thanks to Yoshihiro )
First Step: Make sure you have upgrade your PSP CFW to 5.50 GEN-B
In order to upgarde to 5.50 GEN-B, you required to upgrade your current CFW to 5.50 GEN-A. Then only upgrade to 5.50 GEN-B from 5.50 GEN-A. This is the compulsory steps. Don’t worry, it’s as simple as learning 1-2-3.
CFW X.XX –> CFW 5.50 GEN-A –>CFW 5.50 GEN-B
- First, download Custom Firmware 5.50 GEN-A, it is easily found from Internet (e.g. you may get it from here)
- Extract the 5.50 GEN-A downloaded zip file, copy it to your PSP memory stick.
- And run the 5.50 GEN-A PSP Update from your PSP.
- It will ask you to press “X” to continue and you can just do so.
- After it is done, you will be getting PSP 5.50 GEN-A from your PSP’s System Information.
- So now you have 5.50 GEN-A, next we need to upgrade it to 5.50 GEN-B. Same thing, just download the Custom firmware 5.50 GEN-B (e.g. you may get it from here)
- Extract the downloaded 5.50 GEN-B zip file, and copy to your PSP memory stick.
- And run the 5.50 GEN-B UPDATER from your PSP.
- After it is done, your PSP should be CFW 5.50 GEN-B! Congrats!
Second Step: Prepare a patched GTP
While I’m writing this, patched GTP are available for download now. (A) For the easier & lazy way, you can download the Patched GTP and it should works like magic in your upgraded PSP.
(B) The other alternatives is assume that you had downloaded the Original GTP and don’t bother to download the almost 1 GB big file again due to your poor broadband speed. You can use Yoshihida Game Decrypter and UMDGEN to patch your game by yourself. This will allow you to run your backup games that requires the OFW 5.55 to work properly on custom firmwares 5.50GEN. The following are the guides I got it from developer’s note and some extra steps that I add in
- first you need to download Yoshihida Game Decrypter (e.g. you may download from here), extract and install the GameZDecryptZ folder in your X:PSP/GAME folder
- *Before you made any changes to the original ISO, it is advised to “Menu > File> File List > Export…” export the file list. (this file is needed later)
- Okay, now use UMDGEN (e.g. you may download from here) to extract PSP_GAME/SYSDIR/EBOOT.BIN and put that EBOOT.BIN on root of your PSP memory stick.
- in UMDGEN, open GTP iso file. Browse to PSP_GAME/SYSDIR/EBOOT.BIN, right click on that EBOOT.BIN and choose “Extract Selected..”, extract it to your root of memory stick.
- Then you can boot game decrypter now you can press X to continue. You will noticed a new folder named “DECRYPTOR” is created on root of your memory stick.
- connect your usb cable check on root of your memory stick and copy the EBOOT.BIN from the DECRYPTOR folder to UMDGEN and replace that PSP_GAME/SYSDIR/EBOOT.BIN.
- *Now import back the file list that you just exported earlier, “Menu > File> File List > Import..”. And select YES to forcing LBAs, then Save.
- Now rebuild the ISO file. Just save your the modified ISO from UMDGEN to a new ISO file.
- Finally…. yup! your game is patched! Just copied that new ISO to your memory stick and RACE!!
!!!Important Note: Custom Firmware 5.50 GEN-B. CFW 5.50 GEN-B is ONLY compatible with the PSP-1000 (Fat) & PSP-2000 (Slim) v1 or v2. DO NOT attempt to install this on a PSP-3000 or PSP-2000 with the TA-088v3 motherboard. And try this at your own risk.
Missing In Action!!! Wow, it’s been a year I didn’t show up in my blog. After I have a look on my blog, I found that the response from 2 previous topic seems good.

This is a breaking news for PSP firmware 2.5/2.6 users like me. Have you ever heard someone said “It is impossible for PSP 2.5/2.6 to be downgraded!!”, “haha, too bad dude, you got a stupid 2.5/2.6 PSP that cannot be downgraded and play ISO UMD”, “You will be regret if you plan to go for white PSP 2.5/2.6″. That is what we heard in the past time.
Now PSP 2.5/2.6 can be downgraded to 1.5 except PSP that having TA-82 motherboard. I have downgraded my White PSP with Factory firmware 2.5 to 1.5 successfully 2 days ago, right after Dark_Alex released final version downgrader along with Mathieulh and Yoshihiro. We also give BIG THANKS to Hitchhikr who make exploit possible in PSP 2.5/2.6 via GTA eLoader. After Hitchhikr successfully unlocked PSP 2.5/2.6 kernel, beta version of downgraders are released in short time. We shall thank to those brave PSP users who had been trying to downgrade their PSP during Beta version. There are some people who bricked their PSP during downgrading their PSP. So sorry about them and we must appreciate those brave guys who point out the failure reason for developer to improved the beta downgrader.
As you noticed the following date are when the Kernel was unlocked and downgrader was released. Downgrader is released within A WEEK time after Kernel is unlock!!!
27th June 2006 – PSP 2.5/2.6 Kernel Mode Unlocked
30th June 2006 – Downgrader V5 Beta Released which having more than 90 percent success rate.
2nd July 2006 – Downgrader Final Version Released < -- I'm using this final version to downgrade my PSP 2.5

Faisal’s Guide to Downgrade your PSP from 2.71 to 1.5
| 2.71 to 1.5 GuideHi everyone,
First of all I would start by introducing my self, My name is Faisal from Saudi Arabia. I am doing this step by step guide which is part of my quest to 1.5. Now some of you may find this lengthy and boring. Well…. The idea behind writing this in such detailed way is to ensure I cover all the topics that are required to achieve a successful 1.5. Also this is intended for Noobs like my self who ask for more eachtime. So here it goes: What PSP I have: I bought my PSP 1 month ago. It was a factory 1.52FW PSP-1007K WS259 “C”. This is the Taiwanese version. For those of you who don’t know the previous versions of the Software downgraders were unscuccessful with a PSP-1006 & 1007 (Asian versions). But that’s not the case with Dark Alex’s Easy Full Downgrader 2.71>1.5 by XTRUSION. History of UPGRADE Before getting 1.5! As mentioned above, I had a factory 1.52FW, so in order to play the new games I upgraded to 2.60FW using the GTA disc FW upgrader that came embedded in my GTA. It is a US version of GTA (PATCHED ONE!!!!). believe me the reason I decided to use the new 2.71 Easy Full DG is because I couldn’t find the GTA unpatched version here in Saudi. For those who don’t know the previous Dark Alex DG 2.5/2.6 required an UNPATCHED Copy of GTA LCS (it is as hard to find these days as a factory 1.5… TRUST ME). (How to tell if you have a UNPATCHED …. The ONLY way is to put the UMD in, if it asks for a version 2.0 upgrade it is UNPATCHED otherwise it is PATCHED. So on 1st September when I came to know about the new downgrader 2.71 > 1.5 I went to the dl.qj.net site and downloaded a copy of the 2.71 FW to upgrade. Successfully upgraded to 2.71 I believe it was the North American version. So once I had the 2.71 I was all set to get 1.5. Checks before downgrading THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF MY POST…. READ CAREFULLY. All the information here will help you decide weather you qualify for a Downgrade or not. Pls. Pls. people don’t flood forums by posting 100s of questions with out doing your home work…. As for my self…. I studied about a month from various forums….. trust me the knowledge and person experiences of others really eased my quest…. Anyways…. This is a list that should be followed A-Z no if’s and but’s : 1) Dark Alex Easy Downgrader 2.71 > 1.5 by Xtrusion is ONLY for 2.71. The Actual Downgrade: Ok, so after you’ve gone through the above check list, you’re good to go,,,, although the most important thing that you need to understand is : “You’ve been Warned !!!!! This could potentially brick your PSP. Your best chances of doing it right is if you follow the above list and ensure that you’re ready to accept the outcome, Don’t blame anyone…. IT IS YOUR DECISION.!!! • Connect you PSP to the power adaptor. Special thanks to Dark Alex, Yoshiro, Fanjita, Xtrusion and other developers who made this so easy and possible. Also special thanks to POX & RAGGABLE of PSPHACKING101.com. You guys are unbelievable.. Watched all your 18 episodes… awaiting the next one anxiously. So in the end guys, trust me it is not difficult at all….. it is really easy with the voice interface. And the process is only 5 minutes total.. so don’t deprive your self of the wonders of 1.5.. I had mentioned that one of my dream gadget is Playstation Portable, PSP in my earlier post. Now that dream gadget is in my hand, My precious PSP! I would say i’m extremely excited when i bought this toy and it is WHITE color. Personally, I like white if compare to black color. hehe, I bought my desk, my small table and dustbin are all in white color.
